Why Have More Than One Credit Card?

      By admin | February 29, 2008

When it comes to credit cards, there seems to be more and more on the market. So getting one has never been so easy. Gone are the days when consumers had one or possibly two credit cards. These days it is not unusual at all to have a multiple cards, with some of us owning a countless number of them.

With credit card companies enticing us with all sorts of offers, spending has never been so easy, but on the downside, this has led to those who don’t use them carefully getting into debt with them.

So what are the benefits of having more than one credit card?

As not all cards offer the same deals on purchases, balance transfers, and rates of interest, you could save yourself some money if you use the right card and use it wisely. Some credit card companies offer deals such as 0% interest on purchases for six months. This type of deal could be great if you are looking to make a purchase but do not have the cash at the moment, but will have in a few months time. It is important to pay off the balance before the special 0% deal finishes as very often the interest rates are huge after the special time period.

One benefit of having more than one card is that you may be able to organise your finances better. Some people choose to have one card for work expenses another for bills and other fixed payments. This can work very well as when the statement arrives, you know what you are expecting and it can be much easier to keep track of expenditure.

If selected carefully, then you can use credit cards to your advantage. Some of these offer a great loyalty point scheme. This means that for every pound you spend you can earn points so when these mount up, you can put them towards all sorts of purchases. A loyalty credit card is particularly useful for regular and large purchases as you can earn points quickly this way.

Some stores or shopping on-line or over the phone will only accept certain types of credit card for example a visa or mastercard. If you regularly use credit cards for purchases, then it would be an advantage to have a choice in case of a situation where you are unable to use one card.
